Casoria—An incident that highlights the rigorous food safety controls occurred in recent days at a large-scale retail store in Casoria. A resident of Afragola filed a complaint with law enforcement after finding a serious hygiene defect in a product purchased on the afternoon of April 18.
According to the reconstruction and documentation provided by the traceability labels, the consumer had requested several slices of "Porchetta di Ariccia PGI." However, upon consumption at home, opening the slices revealed the presence of biological foreign bodies (attributable to parasites) inside the meat, an anomaly not immediately visible from the outside during the cutting process at the counter.
The customer's report highlights not only the product's integrity, but also the store's subsequent handling of the incident. According to the complaint filed with the Carabinieri, the supermarket staff initially dismissed the visual issue as simply due to the presence of spices or herbs, merely offering a refund via a shopping voucher. The complainant specifically complains about the alleged failure to immediately activate precautionary procedures to isolate and recall the batch.
In addition to law enforcement intervention, the case was brought to the attention of MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who called for urgent investigations: "We are witnessing an incident that requires immediate and rigorous investigation by the health supervisory authorities and the NAS," Borrelli stated. "The protection of public health is an absolute priority and there are no exceptions to food preservation and control protocols. We have asked the competent authorities to review the procedures of the store involved to determine the circumstances of the incident. It is essential to provide citizens with clear answers and maximum food safety."
We are now awaiting the intervention of the competent health authorities to inspect the storage conditions of the goods and determine whether this was an isolated case or a critical issue affecting other batches.

I read the article, and it seems like news that deserves careful scrutiny. The customer found parasites inside the pork butt, and the staff dismissed it as "spices." Apparently, they didn't isolate the batch and didn't activate immediate sanitation procedures, so the protocol needs to be revised.
