Naples – New developments in the investigation into the death of little Domenico Caliendo. The family's lawyer, Francesco Petruzzi, has filed a motion with the preliminary investigations judge requesting an extension of the preliminary hearing scheduled for April 28 at the Bari Polyclinic.
Specifically, the request concerns the presence, during the technical examination, not only of the transplanted heart, which was later found to be damaged, but also of the child's original heart, removed before the surgery. "This is a necessary assessment," Petruzzi explained, "because there remain questions that need clear answers."
Possible new interrogations of doctors
At the same time, another investigative front is opening. The lawyer has in fact mentioned the possibility of a new pre-trial interrogation for cardiac surgeon Guido Oppido and his assistant, Emma Bergonzoni.
The two doctors are being investigated for forgery in the proceedings concerning alleged changes to little Domenico's medical records.
According to Petruzzi, any repetition of the interrogations would be "unusual." "Something must have happened during the hearings of the past few weeks," he emphasized, "and then we'll understand why they need to be repeated."
The new case: a little girl died before surgery
Meanwhile, a second incident has emerged that has come under the scrutiny of the Domenico Foundation. It concerns the death of a little girl at Monaldi Hospital in October 2025, about two months before the operation on little Caliendo.
According to the lawyer, the medical documentation is still being analyzed, but initial evidence suggests a delay in treatment.
"The child," Petruzzi explained, "died due to an unjustified wait-and-see attitude. There are no clinical records to justify this decision, which could have compromised her chances of survival."
Known diagnosis, late intervention
The reconstruction shows that the little girl suffered from a malformation diagnosed prenatally, a condition that would have required prompt intervention immediately after birth.
"It was known that immediate action was needed," the lawyer concludes, "but that didn't happen. By the time the decision was made to operate, it was already too late."

I think it's right to investigate, but I see the matter as too complex and confusing, and it will take time to understand. The documents appear incomplete, and some interrogations have been redone. This creates legitimate doubts, but we need to wait for confirmation and not take anything for granted. Everything needs to be clarified.
