Giovanni Malagò officially enters the Italian football arena, and he does so with a speech that leaves no room for ambiguity. At the end of his meeting with the Lega Serie A assembly in Milan, the former CONI president openly discussed his potential candidacy for the presidency of the FIGC, drawing a clear line from his past management. "Football, starting with Serie A, must put aside personal interests because it deserves to be treated differently, even at the institutional level," Malagò began, citing the example of other sports that, unlike football, have managed to work together to achieve results and credibility.

The motto of the leader of Italian sports is "trust," but on one condition: it must be real and not superficial. "Do I have a priority? We mustn't dig in our heels. They've given me their trust, but we must truly give it," he added firmly, addressing the club presidents who welcomed him on Via Rosellini. Malagò doesn't seem to fear the head-on confrontation or the outcome of the polls expected this summer: "I'm not worried about the election result on June 22nd; the game must be played. I think I've proven something in my life, but in sport, nothing can be taken for granted."

One of the central themes of his vision concerns the shortage of Italian talent on the pitch, a topic on which the president preferred to maintain diplomatic caution while still maintaining the urgency of the problem. "There are those who think one way and those who think another on this issue, but it's crucial," he explained, indicating that the only possible solution is mediation between the various leagues and the Federation to overcome the current stalemate. The stated goal is to provide an "optimistic and successful contribution" to improving the entire national sports sector.

Finally, a confrontation with challenger Giancarlo Abete was inevitable, though Aurelio De Laurentiis, who was instead critically supported, supported him. Malagò preferred not to stir up direct controversy, closing the discussion with a dry remark: "The differences between my candidacy and Abete's? Everyone has their own path." The race for the most important seat on Via Allegri is now in full swing: on the one hand, Abete's institutional experience; on the other, the innovative spirit of Malagò, who is calling on clubs to stop looking out for their own private interests to save the future of Italian football.

It seems like a balanced speech to me but I don't understand certain points, Malagò says trust but then the presidents don't really give it, everyone does as they want. The problem of Italian talent is serious and a shared strategy would be needed but then those who govern don't get along, and everything remains uncertain.
