Naples — Roberto Mazzarella, 48, believed to be the current leader of the Camorra clan of the same name, dominant in Naples and the province, was arrested overnight without resistance and is on the Ministry of the Interior's list of highly dangerous fugitives.
Carabinieri officers from the Naples Provincial Command's Investigative Unit, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, located him in a luxury villa in Vietri sul Mare, on the Amalfi Coast, where the boss had taken refuge with his wife and children around the Easter holidays.
Approximately €20 in cash, valuable watches, false documents, cell phones, and notes linked to the clan's possible accounting records were seized at the luxury resort. Mazzarella had been a fugitive since January 28, 2025, having escaped a pre-trial detention order for serious crimes, including mafia-related murder. Shortly after the operation, the Carabinieri Commander-in-Chief, General Salvatore Luongo, personally expressed his appreciation to the officers involved.
In a direct message, he stated: "I really wanted to congratulate you on the operation you've completed. This is a significant operational achievement that primarily serves to strengthen the trust we must always have with citizens. I can only say that I'm proud of Carabinieri like you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you do and how you do it."
These words underscore the intervention's significance, not only in terms of repression but also its symbolic value: a strong signal of state presence in an area historically plagued by organized crime. The operation represents the culmination of an investigation lasting nearly a year and comes as a fresh blow to the Neapolitan Camorra, at a time when law enforcement continues to crack down on the leaders of the most dangerous clans.

Congratulations on the operation. The arrest was a good one, but many questions remain: how could he have been there so long without being found? The authorities didn't see him beforehand. The family seemed to be living normally, but perhaps there were more connections. Let's hope the judge does justice and brings everyone responsible to justice.
