Naples – The revitalization of East Naples depends on local development and active community participation. On Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., Piazza Capri will host an important moment of collective giving: the official presentation of the agreement for the redevelopment and maintenance of 5.000 square meters of green space in the Villa district.
The initiative, a collaboration between the Est(ra)Moenia association, the 100×100 Naples Foundation, and the NEST – Napoli Est Teatro, aims to transform the Capri, Procida, and Ischia squares into models of urban livability. This three-year project goes beyond green space management to build a new sense of belonging in one of the most strategic areas for the city's future development.
A pact for the territory
The focus of the meeting will be the story of a journey that began last March, which has now solidified itself as a virtuous example of collaboration between the non-profit sector and public administration. Representatives of the promoters and the City of Naples' Councilor for Green Spaces, Vincenzo Santagada, will speak at the event, emphasizing the importance of protecting common spaces through concrete and ongoing actions.
Maintaining flowerbeds isn't just about decoration, but also about social infrastructure that improves residents' quality of life and fosters new opportunities for social interaction.
"Hands in the Earth": Gardening Goes Social
The morning will continue with a strong involvement of the younger generations. Thanks to the "Hands in the Earth" workshop, the expert gardeners of 100×100 Naples will guide residents and children in discovering greenery care techniques.
A central role will be played by students from Istituto 46 Scialoja Cortese-Rodinò and Istituto Comprensivo Vittorino da Feltre, who will enliven the square with musical moments and artistic performances, transforming a day of civic engagement into a true neighborhood celebration.
Three-year vision and cultural synergies
The adoption of greenery in the Villa district is part of a broader vision of urban transformation. The project is closely linked to other significant initiatives in the area, such as the crowdfunding campaign to reopen the nearby Supercinema Teatro SuperNest, a cultural space closed for 44 years that aims to become a landmark for the neighborhood again.
Through this three-year plan, East Naples is experimenting with a model of civic engagement where the maintenance of public spaces becomes a driving force for safety, social interaction, and cultural development, demonstrating how cooperation between public and private entities can generate lasting value for the entire metropolis.

It seems like a good initiative to me, but I'm not sure it will work in practice, because projects often end up on paper. I hope that schools and young people truly participate and that maintenance is constant and not just promises.
