Naples – An afternoon of routine madness unfolded in Largo Sermoneta, where what was supposed to be a peaceful, sunny day turned into a theater of urban guerrilla warfare. A large group of minors, many of them from deprived communities, stormed the public beach, sowing panic among swimmers, tourists, and elderly people, who were forced to flee hastily to avoid harassment and threats.

Crime Symbols on Skin: The Case of the Child with a "Scarface" Tattoo
The case was sparked by the intervention of the Green Left MP, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who arrived on the scene after repeated reports from residents. The scene described by the MP is disturbing: a pack of very young people proudly displaying the codes of the underworld.

"We found kids sporting tattoos typical of criminal families: firearms, machine guns, and, even more chilling, a boy of about eight with an effigy of Scarface imprinted on his skin," Borrelli said. Upon seeing the cameras and the MP, the gang didn't back down; on the contrary, verbal abuse quickly escalated to action.

Aggression and the shadow of indifference
The tension escalated within moments. Some adults joined the ranks of the youth gang, sparking a furious stone-throwing and the throwing of filled water bottles at the MP and those present. In this chaos, Borrelli blamed an Army patrol in the area, which, according to the MP's complaint, failed to intervene despite the climate of public safety.

The situation was brought back under control only with the arrival of the State Police, alerted by the deputy's escort, who allowed them to disperse the group and restore law and order on the beach.

The harsh accusation: "Failed parents and an absent state."
At the end of the inspection, Borrelli's comment is a bullet against the social degradation of the city:

The violence of these gangs is out of control. They are the offspring of a Camorra culture that inherits the worst codes of behavior. In addition to the necessary severity of the state, parents must be reminded of their responsibilities: those who bring these children into the world cannot pass their educational failures on to the community.

The MP then reiterated his disappointment over the military's inaction on the scene, calling it a demonstration of "total inadequacy in the management of public order." What remains, after yet another news story, is the image of a wounded coastline and a citizenry clamoring for the right to normalcy.

It seems to me a very sad and worrying situation, but without exaggerating: the city needs organization and parents who do not abandon their children, but the State should also intervene better, because we see confused young people, and adults who are not prepared, we need more prevention and more dialogue, not just the police.
