Naples – He allegedly staged a fake traffic accident to conceal a serious injury to one of his employees, who was working illegally in the company yard. For this reason, the sixty-year-old owner of a Neapolitan trucking company was reported to the judicial authorities by officers of the Road Accident Operations Unit of the Naples Local Police.
The reconstruction of the facts
The incident dates back to the evening of April 14, when the Operations Center received a report of a suspected traffic accident near the Civil Motorization Office on Via Argine. The victim—a 63-year-old Ukrainian citizen—was rushed to the Villa Betania Evangelical Hospital with critical condition and subsequently transferred to the intensive care unit of the Umberto I Hospital in Nocera Inferiore with a critical prognosis.
A passerby reported to officers that he had found the man and his bicycle on the roadway of Via Vincenzo Ingangi. However, technical inspections carried out on the scene and on the vehicle revealed no evidence of a road impact, fueling investigators' suspicions.
The investigations and the confession
The investigation led the officers to the owner's company headquarters. Although the internal video surveillance system was disabled, the evidence collected allowed them to pinpoint the exact location of the accident.
Confronted with the evidence, on the evening of Friday, April 16, the sixty-year-old man appeared at the Local Police offices, assisted by his lawyer, admitting to having faked the accident to conceal the irregular employment status of the employee, who had been involved in an accident while performing his duties in the company yard. The man was charged with procedural fraud and violation of workplace safety regulations.
Councilor De Iesu's comment
"I want to applaud and thank the Road Accident Investigators for their excellent work," said Councilor for Legal Affairs Antonio De Iesu. "Thanks to their professionalism, it was possible to uncover a particularly serious crime: the attempt to deny the dignity and rights of an injured worker through a cynical charade."
The victim's condition remains critical. The case has been forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office for further investigation.
