Naples – Investigations continue unabated to identify those responsible for the robbery that took place yesterday morning at the Crédit Agricole branch located in Piazza Medaglie d'Oro, in the Vomero neighborhood.
Law enforcement is working to precisely map the movements of the criminal group, which exploited the city's sewer system both for access and for its subsequent escape route.
The dynamics of intrusion
The attack began around noon. According to initial reports and witness statements, the group—comprising more than three people—acted in a coordinated manner. While some of the criminals apparently reached the bank in a car, their accomplices entered the building from below, drilling a hole in the floor.
During the operation, approximately 25 people, including bank customers and employees, were detained inside the premises. During this time, the intruders managed to force open and empty dozens of safety deposit boxes, before fleeing without a trace.
Inspection of the subsoil and the seized material
Since yesterday afternoon, the Carabinieri of the Naples Provincial Command, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office, have been carrying out a complex inspection. The investigations are focusing on the underground route used by the bandits.
This morning, around 11:00 a.m., the military was joined by technicians from ABC (Acqua Bene Comune), the company responsible for the water and sewerage services of the City of Naples. The specialized teams inspected a manhole located a few steps from the bank's exit.
The exploration of the tunnels was successful: authorities found and seized several tools presumably used for burglary and logistical support. Among the recovered materials were containers (buckets and shovels) used to transport waste materials and a small generator, which is currently undergoing in-depth technical investigations.
Security cameras under scrutiny
In parallel with the underground operations, investigators are focusing on analyzing digital media. A vast amount of footage has been acquired from video surveillance cameras, both those inside the branch and those installed around Piazza Medaglie d'Oro and in surrounding streets. The goal is to cross-reference the visual data to identify the vehicles used to arrive at the scene and reconstruct in detail every stage of the criminal plan, narrowing down the perpetrators.
