Naples – High-quality training and social empowerment intertwine in the Vele di Scampia neighborhood. Starting in May 2026, the neighborhood will host the first edition of "Nuovo Cinema 167," a completely free, intensive film production course. The initiative is the result of a strategic collaboration between Cattleya, the City of Naples, the Vele di Scampia Committee, and Sky, strengthening the bond forged during the filming of the Sky Original documentary "La diaspora delle Vele," directed by Francesca Comencini.
A training course between theory and practice
The curriculum is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the entire audiovisual production chain. The course combines theoretical lectures and practical modules, enhanced by masterclasses led by leading professionals in Italian cinema.
Students will have the opportunity to delve into several specialized areas:
Production: from the creative to the executive phase.
Narrative and technique: writing, directing, cinematography and editing.
Visual craftsmanship: scenography and costumes.
The program will conclude with a hands-on production experience: participants will be involved in the creation of short films and documentaries focusing on the new chapter in the history of Le Vele and the ReStart Scampia urban regeneration project.
The course is open to a maximum of 25 participants, aged between 18 and 35, who are local residents or professionals in the sector. For application procedures, please visit the official website of the Municipality of Naples at www.comune.napoli.it. The application deadline is May 4th.

It seems like an interesting idea, but I'm not sure it will work. The requirements seem too high, and the course is short. Participants have high expectations, the project should be more community-based, there's a lack of information on how to apply, and time is tight. The instructors may be able to guide, but resources are needed.
