Poggioreale, crack rains from a drone: the latest Camorra flight ends up on the street.

Hashish, crack, and smartphones ready for door-to-door delivery to prison cells. The latest investigations by the Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) reveal the modified drone business and the rise of paid pilots: night flights and cargo suspended on invisible wires to evade state controls.

Naples – An electric hum cuts through the silence of the night above the high-rise buildings of the Centro Direzionale. It's not a toy, it's the sound of a delivery.

The last "sky courier" failed to reach its objective, however, ending its flight on the asphalt before reaching the prison bars at Poggioreale. Recovered by the Carabinieri, the drone was carrying a complete criminal survival kit: three latest-generation smartphones, 200 grams of hashish, and that handful of grams of crack that, within prison walls, is worth a fortune.

The defeat of the "off-course" courier

The incident a few days ago is just the tip of an iceberg of propellers and microchips. The discovery in the prison's perimeter area confirms a trend law enforcement is closely monitoring: the use of drones is no longer an isolated experiment, but a consolidated and systematic practice.

Organized crime has found a way to breach prison security, transforming the airspace into a free zone for drugs, orders, and encrypted communications.

Military technology at the service of the clans

The investigations coordinated by the Naples DDA paint a disturbing picture. The seized aircraft are not off-the-shelf products: they are heavily modified. The clan's technicians modify the software to bypass no-fly zones, upgrade the batteries to increase their range, and use dark paint and transparent nylon thread to make the cargo invisible to sensors and guards.

Drones take off from private terraces or shaded areas in continuous rotation, making it almost impossible to track the take-off point.

The Camorra's "Top Guns": Salaries of 10 Euros

At the heart of the system, however, is the figure of the "dron operator." These are specialized pilots, remote flight professionals who sell their skills to the clans. The price list is staggering and reflects the clans' firepower: prices start at €700-800 for a standard delivery, rising to €3.000 for the riskiest trips.

But it's in the wiretaps that the harshest truth emerges: top pilots boasting of earning up to €10 in a single day of operation. This flexible and elusive logistics has transformed Poggioreale and Secondigliano into terminals for a type of trafficking that the state is cracking down on by all means.

Seizure Table and Fees

Seized Material Destination Pilot Rate (average)
Smartphone & SIM Poggioreale / Secondigliano €700 – €800
Hashish and Crack High Security Pavilions €3.000
“Record Day” Business Total Up to €10.000

Interesting article, but a bit confusing. It seems like the hydroplanes do everything and no one is keeping an eye on them. However, I think the police are working hard. Half-resources aren't enough. The clans use tricks and modified technologies, and the take-off point is never found. Strange, isn't it?
