Salerno – Tensions are high in the emergency room: healthcare workers fight in front of waiting patients. Ruggi management is being called for resignation due to poor management of the hospital.
This time it was not the patients or their families who attacked the doctors and nurses, but the fight broke out between two health workers inside the emergency room of the Ruggi d'Aragona hospital in Salerno.
The two health workers came to blows during a private argument, all in front of the waiting patients. State Police officers had to intervene to calm the situation. It appears the two litigants have not filed complaints to settle the personal dispute legally, but what happened is certainly serious enough to lead to disciplinary action.
Hospital management asked to resign
Beyond the unique nature of the case, the situation has raised questions about the department's internal organization, prompting Mario Polichetti, head of the UDC's Health Department, to call for the resignation of Ruggi's management. "This is a serious incident, demonstrating how tension within the Ruggi emergency room has now reached dangerous levels," commented Mario Polichetti.
"We can no longer witness incidents like this in a place that should guarantee safety, care, and peace of mind to its citizens," he added. "What happened is unacceptable, not only because of the circumstances surrounding the incident, but above all because it occurred in an emergency area, in front of vulnerable people awaiting assistance. It's clear there's a problem with the organization and internal climate management. For this reason, we are strongly calling for the resignation of the Ruggi management."

I'm reluctant to judge immediately; the situation is both worrying and confusing. The two operators made mistakes, but resigning management isn't always the solution. Clear information is lacking; the department's organization appears overburdened, and patients remain fearful and disoriented. Audits and organizational changes should be made.
