Santa Maria a Vico – Carabinieri from the local station, supported by members of the Caserta Anti-Adulteration and Health Unit (NAS) and local health authority personnel, are carrying out tight controls in the restaurant sector. During a nighttime raid, the officers conducted a health and hygiene inspection inside a bistro in the city center, revealing a situation deemed critical on several levels.
Food without labels and traceability
The investigation targeted a business run by a company linked to a young local entrepreneur. During the inspections, approximately 100 kilograms of food, including meat and seafood, were found, completely unlabeled and without any traceability information.
Specifically, essential information regarding the origin, manufacturing processes, and batches was missing. Food preparations stored in violation of current regulations were also found. The entire quantity was seized.
Hygienic deficiencies and structural criticalities
The general condition of the premises is no less worrying. The officers found widespread sanitation deficiencies, with previous dirt on surfaces and equipment, as well as a lack of adequate ventilation and hot water.
Further structural irregularities were discovered: exposed electrical wiring, unsuitable waste containers, and deviations from the authorized floor plan. Anomalies were also found in the restrooms, where irrelevant materials were found.
Activity suspended and further checks
In light of the confirmed violations, deemed incompatible with minimum food safety requirements, the immediate suspension of food preparation activities has been ordered. Reopening will only be possible once the conditions required by law have been fully restored.
The seized food was handed over to the legal representative, who was also informed of the related responsibilities, including criminal liability in the event of further violations.
The competent Local Health Authority will now proceed with further administrative and sanctioning procedures. This operation is part of a broader plan of intensified controls across the territory to protect public health and consumer safety.

Unlabeled and untraceable food. A business managed by a company linked to a young local entrepreneur has been targeted by the investigation.

Reading the article, it seems like a necessary check, but the description is confusing. The Carabinieri conducted a nighttime inspection, but it's unclear whether the entrepreneur was properly notified. The 100kg of unlabeled, untraceable food is considered dangerous. Hygienic deficiencies and exposed wires explain the suspension, but the procedure seems rigid and also a bit sketchy. We're awaiting clarification from the local health authority (ASL) and documentation.
