A sit-in to protest the reinstatement of the Limited Traffic Zone on Via Morelli, but also to demand a more effective traffic plan and denounce the impact of high fuel prices on taxi drivers' daily work. This is the demonstration announced for April 25th by the Comitato Tassisti di Base (Base Taxi Drivers Committee) together with the Movimento Consumatori Napoli (Consumers' Movement of Naples).

The demonstration will be held at the taxi stand in Piazza dei Martiri, in the heart of Chiaia, where the initiative's promoters intend to draw the attention of institutions and the public to the difficulties they believe some recent road-related decisions are creating for the sector.

At the heart of the protest is the reactivation of the ZTL (limited traffic zone) on Via Morelli, a measure that taxi drivers believe risks further complicating traffic in an already heavily congested area. Hence, they have asked the city administration to develop a traffic plan deemed more adequate to the needs of urban mobility and non-scheduled public transport.

Among the issues raised was the rising cost of fuel, which in recent months—the promoters emphasize—has significantly impacted taxi operating costs, reducing the profit margins of operators in the sector.

Organizers are keen to point out that the protest will not affect public transport. Taxi service will be available throughout the city during the sit-in.

It seems like a good initiative, but also confusing. Taxi drivers are worried about the limited traffic zone on Via Morelli, which is causing further delays, and fuel costs are increasing. The administration doesn't have a clear traffic plan, and the taxi stand seems uncoordinated. The service will remain guaranteed, but uncertainty remains.

I read the article and it seems like a valid protest, but even with some uncertain points, the administration should explain better. The site in the square seems correct, but taxi drivers risk being penalized by the ZTL on Via Morelli. The increase in fuel prices is a real problem, but we need a clear and shared traffic plan.
