Naples – A protest on foot to proclaim that the city is paralyzed. On Saturday, April 25, the Neapolitan taxi industry will gather in Piazza dei Martiri from 11:00 a.m. to 13:00 p.m. to denounce what they call a structural collapse of urban mobility.
The protest, announced in a joint statement by the Basic Taxi Drivers Committee and the Consumer Movement, has been joined by the Sitan/Atn and Unipresa unions. At the heart of the protest is not just the congestion on major roads, but the political management of traffic.
Critical issues: Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) and illegal parking
According to trade representatives, the lack of an adequate traffic plan and the failure to reactivate the Limited Traffic Zones, particularly on Via Domenico Morelli, have made daily work an obstacle course. Municipality 1 is also accused of failing to report the problems related to illegal parking to the relevant departments (Transport and Legality), despite repeated requests.
"We are faced with inefficient management that penalizes workers and citizens on a daily basis," the union statement reads. "On the one hand, it increases inconvenience for users, on the other, it increases service costs at an unacceptable rate."

Making the picture even bleaker is the rising cost of living. Rising fuel prices, fueled by international geopolitical instability, are eroding drivers' profit margins, jeopardizing the very sustainability of non-scheduled public transport.
Saturday's protest therefore appears to be an ultimatum to the city administration: without immediate action on preferential lanes, checks, and social fares, the Naples taxi service risks sliding into a permanent standstill.
