"To the extorted businessmen who have not yet filed a complaint, I say that the time has come to do so." This was the appeal made by the Prosecutor of North Naples, Domenico Airoma, during the press conference held at the Aversa judicial offices to outline the details of the investigation that led to the arrest of a State Police inspector serving in the Joint Anti-Mafia Group (GIA) established at the Caserta Prefecture.

An accountant was also arrested along with the police officer. According to the prosecution, the two allegedly received bribes from entrepreneurs interested in obtaining or maintaining their presence on the White List of companies, a list of firms deemed not exposed to mafia infiltration and authorized to operate in sensitive sectors.

"We did our part," Airoma explained. "The Caserta Police Headquarters and the Flying Squad had the professionalism to uncover the corruption within and report it without hesitation. I now expect the business owners to find the courage to speak out."

Also present at the press conference was Deputy Prosecutor Maria Di Mauro, who coordinated the investigation. "Business owners who decide to file a complaint will find rigor and severity from this side," Airoma added. "There will be no concessions for those who tarnish the uniform." The prosecutor also spoke of an incident that affects him personally: "I am the son of a police officer, and this investigation is causing me pain."

A sentiment shared by Caserta Police Chief Andrea Grassi, present along with the head of the Flying Squad, Massimiliano Russo. "It's a painful event," Grassi stated, "but it demonstrates that the State Police has the necessary resources to react, working rigorously, loyally, and transparently alongside the judicial authorities." The Police Chief announced that in the next few hours he will sign the suspension order for the arrested inspector.

The investigation began about a month ago following complaints filed by two businessmen. Investigators are now aiming to broaden the scope of their investigations to identify any further corruption related to the management of the White List.

Interesting article, but several things are still unclear: the names have not been officially released and the sources do not match, the details of the arrests and searches are written together in a confusing way, the report seems to mix old and new data, and hopefully updates will arrive soon.
