Naples – The 23-year-old arrested for the death of Fabio Ascione chose to remain silent but offered a voluntary statement. His arrest was confirmed and he was sentenced to prison. A minor was also implicated and charged with weapons.

The surrender after days of escape

After being unaccounted for for nearly a week, he turned himself in to the Carabinieri on the eve of the victim's funeral. Francescoscopio Autiero, 23, originally from Ponticelli, appeared before the preliminary investigations judge for a hearing to validate his arrest on charges of causing the death of Fabio Ascione.

Before the investigating judge, the young man exercised his right to remain silent, but chose to make a voluntary statement. "I had the gun in my hand. I was describing what had happened, but the shot went off by mistake. I didn't mean to kill my friend," he stated, also expressing sorrow for what had happened.

The judge's decision

At the end of the hearing, after a lengthy deliberation, the judge confirmed the arrest and ordered his pre-trial detention in prison.

The defense, represented by lawyers Leopoldo Perone and Simone Grossi, has announced its intention to appeal to the Court of Appeal in the coming days, challenging the restrictive measure.

The involvement of the minor

At the same time, in the previous days, the hearing had taken place regarding a second young man involved in the affair, a seventeen-year-old identified as KV.

In this case, too, the proceedings concluded with a moment of intense emotional tension and with admissions. However, the minor was not charged with voluntary manslaughter, but rather with crimes related to the possession and carrying of weapons.
According to what has emerged, the boy was allegedly driving the scooter Autiero was on shortly before the events.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Holy Tuesday morning, around five o'clock, on Viale Carlo Miranda, in the Ponticelli neighborhood.

According to investigators' reconstruction, a few minutes before Ascione's death, Autiero took part in a firefight near a local business, amid tensions between opposing groups from neighboring areas.

Investigators are investigating the relationships between the individuals involved and circles already known to law enforcement, with the aim of clarifying the dynamics and responsibilities.
