The Caserta Provincial Police have filed a report against a San Tammaro businessman, owner of a buffalo farm that has been subject to inspections in the past. He faces serious charges: illegal intermediation and labor exploitation, employing illegal foreign workers, and aiding and abetting their stay in Italy.

The master's (failed) escape

During the inspection, coordinated by Colonel Biagio Chiariello, officers caught two Moroccan workers hard at work. Upon seeing their uniforms, the owner tried everything he could: he tried to get the two men to move away to avoid the search. This failed, and his situation worsened.

Ten hours at two euros an hour

Taken to the police station for identification, the two workers were found to be illegal, without residence permits. During the investigation, they described their daily routine: approximately ten hours of work a day for a wage of just two euros an hour. No contractual protection, no social security. A situation resembling pure gang-mastering, in complete violation of the law.

Bitter Mill

Following the investigation, the entrepreneur was charged with a criminal offence. At the same time, the Provincial Police forwarded a report to the Labor Inspectorate. The farm owner faced a hefty fine: approximately €5.000 in fines and a massive administrative penalty of €14.000.

The operation is part of a broader plan to combat the exploitation of immigrant labor and protect the environment in one of Campania's most troubled areas, the so-called Land of Fires.

The situation is confusing, I'm not sure how it happened; they found two workers without permits, working 10 hours a day for 2 euros an hour. The employer tried to scare them away, but it was futile. We need to investigate carefully, and the law will then decide correctly.
