Naples — To allow for scheduled maintenance work on the Naples-Salerno line via Monte del Vesuvio, Trenitalia and Ferrovie dello Stato have announced significant changes to train services between April 22 and 24, April 26, 29, and 30, as well as May 3, 6, and 7, 2026.

The disruptions affect both long-distance trains and regional services. Specifically: Some high-speed trains on the Reggio Calabria–Salerno–Milan Central/Turin Porta Nuova route and the InterCity trains Reggio Calabria/Battipaglia–Rome Termini will have their timetables changed, possibly with earlier departures and increased travel times.

Regional trains on the Naples Central – Battipaglia – Sapri/Paola/Cosenza line will be diverted to the alternative Naples-Salerno via Storica route, with consequent changes to timetables and stops.
Schedule changes and partial cancellations are planned for the Caserta-Salerno route, with a replacement bus service between Salerno and Sarno/Cancello.

The R 5346 regional train will be entirely replaced by a bus service between Salerno and Naples Central.

Travelers are advised that buses may take longer due to road traffic and that there will be fewer seats than on regular trains. Bicycles, electric scooters, and large animals (except guide dogs) are not permitted on replacement buses. Trenitalia's sales channels have already been updated with the new information.

All detailed changes, revised timetables, and alternatives are available on the website www.trenitalia.com and on the Trenitalia app in the Smart Caring section. Ferrovie dello Stato recommends always checking for updates before traveling, especially for those traveling for work or for the holidays in late April and early May.

I read the notice and it seems like useful information but a little confusing. Regional trains will be diverted to the alternate route and buses may take longer. There are fewer seats and bicycles or large scooters are not permitted, so travellers should check the timetables and book if necessary.
