Isernia – A nature hike ended tragically in the province of Isernia. Enzino Di Fiore, 71, originally from Giugliano , lost his life yesterday afternoon following an accidental fall along the path connecting Lake Castel San Vincenzo to the Hermitage of San Michele.

According to initial reports, the man was hiking with a friend when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost his balance and fell about twenty meters down a cliff, reaching the riverbed below.

It was the hiking companion who immediately activated the rescue operation, contacting 112 and providing the exact coordinates of the accident. A large task force coordinated by the Molise National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS) responded to the scene, supported by firefighters and Carabinieri.

To support the ground operations, the 118 air ambulance service, which took off from L'Aquila, was also dispatched. Despite the rapid response and the deployment of personnel, the rescuers who reached the bottom of the cliff could only confirm the death of the 71-year-old man, caused by the injuries sustained in the fall. The competent authorities are now working to conduct routine checks and reconstruct the exact sequence of events.

I feel sorry for the family. I don't want to judge, but it seems there was a lack of preparation and knowledge of the area. The trail seemed treacherous, and perhaps there were no signs or guides. The exact circumstances are unclear, but more information, training, and checks would have been needed. Rescuers arrived, but unfortunately the fall was a tragedy.
