Avellino – On May 8, the Avellino Court will once again hear the case of Eduardo Colacicco, who died in October 2020. The criminal proceedings, presided over by Judge Pierpaolo Calabrese, enter a crucial phase with the hearing of the Public Prosecutor's technical consultants, who will present the autopsy findings and clarify the clinical circumstances that led to the man's death.
The chronology of the case: from the consultation to the intervention
The story dates back to September 2020. According to the family's reconstruction, a urological examination and subsequent diagnostic tests (CT and PET scans) revealed a localized oncological pathology. Despite the victim's son, Giuseppe Colacicco, reporting a discrepancy in the reports regarding the affected side of the kidney, the medical team proceeded with the recommendation for a left nephrourectomy.
The operation, performed on October 13, 2020, at Villa Ester in Avellino, owned by Angelo Antonio D'Agostino, president of the Serie B football team, was followed by a rapid and critical deterioration in the patient's condition. The onset of severe kidney failure necessitated transfer to another facility for hemodialysis treatment, but all attempts to provide lifesaving care were in vain: Eduardo Colacicco passed away on the morning of October 23.
The human impact and the family drama
Beyond the legal aspect, the affair has left deep scars on the family's private lives. Giuseppe Colacicco describes a situation of isolation and suffering: "My life has been turned upside down. My mother's health has deteriorated and now requires constant care."
A particularly painful aspect concerns the deterioration of social relationships, given that the surgeon involved was part of the family's longtime circle of friends. This fracture, paradoxically, led to the severing of relationships with many longtime acquaintances following the complaint filed to determine responsibility for the death.
The demand for speedy justice
Looking ahead to the next hearing, the family hopes the trial will proceed without further delays. "As a lawyer, my faith in the institutions is unwavering, but the lengthy proceedings cannot fail to be concerning," states Giuseppe Colacicco. The goal is not only to establish individual responsibility, but also to ensure that similar incidents are not repeated, ensuring that their father's memory is honored through a definitive procedural truth.
