The Carabinieri from the local station, after a thorough investigation, identified the suspicious apartment. To evade surveillance, the plainclothes officers stationed themselves on the first floor of the building, hiding among some boxes piled up on the landing. A short distance away, their uniformed colleagues waited for the signal to intervene.

The break-in into the apartment

The decisive moment came when the couple's voices attracted the attention of the investigators on standby. The man and woman were arguing insistently about large sums of cash. The clanging of a drawer repeatedly opening and closing provided the final clue needed for the investigation.

Finding the front door inadvertently open, the officers rushed into the home. At the shout of recognition, the couple was left petrified, with no chance of escape.

The fake electrical system

The two arrested were a 26-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man, both completely unknown to law enforcement until that point. The subsequent house search revealed a rather ingenious concealment system for an unsuspecting couple. In the living room of the home, the Carabinieri discovered a small iron drawer built directly into the wall.

This secret compartment was hidden behind two fake electrical outlets and protected by a key lock. The two young men, surprised by the soldiers' quick intervention, didn't have time to relock the homemade safe.

The seizures and the arrest

On the windowsill, everything needed to package the doses was found. The officers recovered two vacuum-packed bags containing a total of 50 grams of narcotics, split between cocaine and marijuana. Alongside the narcotics were a precision electronic scale soaked in white powder, several scissors, and a sealing machine.

In the bedroom, inside a purse, law enforcement seized €550 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity. The couple was arrested and is currently awaiting trial before the judicial authorities.

The news seems strange but not entirely unheard of; anyone can be wrong. The couple seemed respectable, but evidently there was illegal activity. The police did their job very quickly, even if the neighbors didn't see it or perhaps kept quiet. Questions remain about the neighborhood's management.
