Villa Literno – A new front of environmental degradation has opened in the Villa Literno countryside, in the province of Caserta. Yesterday morning, Sunday, May 3rd, volunteers from the DEA (Difesa Ecologica Ambientale) association conducted an environmental monitoring inspection and documented a highly critical situation.
Cannibalized cars hidden among the vegetation
Volunteers found numerous car bodies, dismantled and cut into several pieces, abandoned among the reeds of the surface drainage network that flows into Lago Patria. The body parts, partially hidden by vegetation, are likely of illicit origin, according to what was ascertained on site.
Hazardous materials and waste of various kinds
Numerous black bags containing bumpers, fuel tanks, headlights, various types of plastic, and end-of-life tires (ELTs) were found next to the cars. There were also roofing sheets made of material likely containing asbestos, textiles, construction waste, and piles of ash attributable to repeated combustion over time. All the material was concentrated in a hydrogeologically sensitive area.
A phenomenon that has been repeating itself for months
The Villa Literno case is not an isolated one. As reported by DEA volunteers themselves, over the course of approximately two months, approximately one hundred vehicles in similar conditions have been identified in various municipalities in the area: Castel Volturno, Casal di Principe, Frignano, Caivano, and now Villa Literno. This worrying trend confirms the systematic illegal disposal of stolen vehicles. The association has already reported the critical issues to the relevant authorities, requesting rapid intervention to clean up the area and combat the illegal dumping of special and hazardous waste in the Caserta area.

Important news, but it seems like nothing's changing; the institutions haven't intervened, and volunteers have done the monitoring themselves. Dismantled cars, asbestos, ash, and plastic near the water can cause contamination; I hope serious measures are taken soon.
