The fast food giant and the world of volunteers have formed a pact of steel to respond to the social emergency gripping the province of Naples. The sixth edition of "Always Open to Donating" has begun, the solidarity project born during the dark months of the pandemic. McDonald's, Casa Ronald McDonald Italia ETS, and the Campania Food Bank are now on the front lines. The goal is clear and ambitious: to provide 1.375 hot meals each week to those living in extremely vulnerable conditions, transforming the stores into true logistical support centers for local communities.

The initiative extends throughout the Naples area through a network of seventeen restaurants stretching from the Naples ring road to Torre Annunziata, passing through the towns of Giugliano, Melito, Nola, and Pompei. In these kitchens, staff members prepare meals daily, which are then picked up and distributed by a vast network of partner organizations. Beneficiaries include long-standing organizations in the third sector and the local Church, such as the Parish of Saints Alfonso M. De Liguori and Gerardo in Naples, the "Il Rifugio" Association, the Ualsi Foundation of Sant'Anastasia, and the diocesan Caritas organizations of Nola and Cardito, as well as numerous other organizations operating in the most challenging suburbs.

Since 2020, the initiative has donated over one million meals throughout Italy, establishing itself as a structural, rather than merely emergency, response to the economic crisis. The project is part of the broader "I'm Lovin It Italy" initiative, with which the company aims to restore value to the social fabric in which it operates. In a province where food poverty remains an open wound, the gesture of offering a lunch or dinner becomes a symbol of solidarity and a breath of fresh air for thousands of people who would otherwise be excluded from the welfare system.

It's a useful initiative but it's not clear on all points, it seems good but the numbers don't add up, 1375 meals a week and we don't know how they're counted, the restaurants work together but the network of volunteers doesn't always work, services and logistics need to be clarified.
