Ponticelli has a new meeting place. This morning, Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the playground inside Fratelli De Filippo Park, in the eastern district of Naples, was officially inaugurated. The ribbon was symbolically cut by Vincenzo Santagada, Councilor for Health and Parks for the City of Naples, who presented residents with a space redesigned to meet the needs of both adults and children.
The project is part of a broader redevelopment project for the entire green area, spearheaded by the administration led by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, with the goal of restoring dignity and functionality to one of the metropolitan area's urban parks.
Inclusivity and safety at the heart of the project
The playground was designed to accommodate children of various ages, with particular attention to the needs of those with mobility difficulties. All play equipment was installed on a shock-absorbing, colored rubber flooring, in full compliance with the safety standards established by the executive project managed by the Municipality's Large Urban Parks Planning and Management Department.
The space has also been enhanced with a dedicated bocce court, designed to encourage social interaction among adults and seniors in the neighborhood, and with new, modern-design seating that makes the area more comfortable and welcoming.
Greenery, irrigation and new toilets
On the environmental front, the perimeter flowerbeds have been enriched with shrubs to create a continuous hedge, while the entire greenery system has been equipped with a remote-controlled static irrigation system, serving both the existing trees and the newly planted ones.
Among the most significant innovations is the construction of two new accessible restrooms equipped for people with mobility difficulties, which opened to the public at the inauguration. The work was entirely funded by the Strategic Plan of the Metropolitan City of Naples.
The next planned interventions
Today's inauguration represents only the first phase of a more extensive program of interventions. The lighting system is currently being inspected and upgraded, with the installation of new fixtures. A floor fountain with innovative technology and intermittent water jets is also planned, which will help make the park a focal point for the entire community.
"Restoring dignity and beauty to Fratelli De Filippo Park means offering residents a safe, inclusive, and technologically advanced space," said Councilor Santagada. "This is just the first step in a broader redevelopment that will transform the park into a model of intelligent and sustainable management."

Good initiative for the neighborhood, but it's not very clear how it was done: it seems inaugurated but the work is still incomplete, many things need finishing like lights-not, irrigation that still doesn't work, benches with these broken parts, and the bathrooms are accessible but lack signage and regular cleaning.
