Naples – On Friday, May 8, all schools of all levels will be closed in Naples for the Pope's visit. This is according to an ordinance signed by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi.
The decision affects institutions within the city limits and was adopted, the Municipality explains, to ensure the safety of citizens and the smooth running of the event, while also encouraging the participation of those expected along the papal route.
The administration also emphasized the need to limit the travel of students and school staff, also to prevent potential disruptions to school transportation and meal distribution, which could be affected by the traffic restrictions planned for the day.

I understand the reasoning, but it seems excessive to me. Closing schools for one day is perhaps too much. Students and families would need better information, and transportation would have been regulated, but if the information had been clearer, further inconvenience could have been avoided. Let's hope the organization doesn't cause too much inconvenience and that everything goes smoothly.
