Bacoli chooses to look ahead and invest in culture as a driver of cohesion and participation. After being excluded from the shortlist for the title of Italian Capital of Culture, the city is not closing its doors but is opening its doors to a new shared experience: a free event that becomes the first step in a permanent cultural project for residents and visitors.
This journey begins on Saturday, May 9th at 6:30 pm at the Casina Vanvitelliana with the theatrical reading "I servito del re," a collaboration between the Municipality of Bacoli and the Nuovo Teatro Sanità association.
The text is written by Carmine Bianco, Valeria Cozzolino, Mattia D'Angelo, Antonella De Falco, and Antonio Mormone, who will also perform on stage. Mario Gelardi is the artistic director, Chiara Pastore and Roberta De Pasquale are the organizers, and Milena Cozzolino is the press officer.
In the evocative setting of the Casina Vanvitelliana, nestled between the lake and exquisite architecture, the show brings to light stories often overlooked by official narratives. The focus is not on the sovereigns or the pomp of the Bourbon court, but on the ordinary people who inhabited and animated these places: servants, fishermen, hunters, laborers, cooks, and caretakers. Humble figures, privileged spectators of extraordinary beauty, whose work contributed significantly to the site's value.
"These original plays, written specifically for this occasion, are born from a symbolic and identity-building action that the Nuovo Teatro Sanità wanted to deeply share with the Municipality of Bacoli," explains director and artistic director Mario Gelardi. "Forgotten voices emerge from the depths of the lake, while the walls of the Casina restore presence to those who have long been in the background.
The event integrates with the structure, which ceases to be a mere backdrop and becomes a living witness. In this dialogue, the voices of the most vulnerable become a collective narrative, a shared memory, a poetic and civic gesture. It is a project that aims to promote a broad and inclusive culture, capable of enhancing places through the telling of hidden stories. Every great beauty, before being celebrated, must be listened to, even in its most fragile and truest side.

It seems like a curious initiative; the city isn't stopping and is trying to reopen, but I have some doubts about how it's all being organized. The plays are written by multiple authors, but the communication seems to lack detail. The event at the Casina Vanvitelliana is great, but the booking process and phone number are poorly structured. More information would be helpful.
