This system allowed them to circumvent concessions from the Customs and Monopolies Agency, guaranteeing enormous profits directly to the Camorra.
At the center of the proceedings is the appellant, described by investigators as the official "collector" of the sums earmarked for the clan. The son of a longtime Licciardi associate, the man allegedly exploited his criminal pedigree to claim the payments. Wiretaps and audio recordings incriminated him: in several passages, described as "clear" by the judges, it clearly emerges that the money demanded was not the result of personal debts, but rather proceeds from the management of the clan's gambling sites.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court reiterated that, during the pre-trial phase, definitive proof of the crime is not required, but rather a "qualified probability of guilt." The Neapolitan magistrates' reasoning was deemed logical and coherent, especially in outlining how the organization had structured an alternative channel to legal websites.
The appeal was therefore dismissed, with the court ordering the payment of legal costs. The decision confirms the dangers of the "shadow" gambling business, which continues to represent one of the most lucrative financial sources for the clans of the Secondigliano Alliance.
