Naples – An open-air landfill in front of the Casa della Socialità in Via Verrotti, in the heart of theArenellaThis is the complaint made by Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Valori Collinari Committee, who has been following the affairs of this municipal structure for over twenty-five years.
"Although the Municipality has reassured us that the House will remain open, the state of neglect of the outdoor areas is plain for all to see," Capodanno explains. During a recent inspection, we noted overgrown weeds and a large amount of abandoned waste, including bags, clothing, and even a mirror, which is especially dangerous for children.
The history of this facility, created by a 2015 municipal resolution with an investment of €366, is marked by years of neglect and prolonged closure. Initially intended as a center for socialization and inclusion, the house remained unused until early 2024, fueling concerns about its fate. A recent press article even mentioned a possible closure, but it mistook the neighborhood where it was located, confusing Arenella with Vomero.
The Municipality, in response, denied the closure, announcing that procedures are underway to reassign management and ensure the continuity of operations. Capodanno, however, is calling for urgent routine and extraordinary maintenance to remove waste and restore its decor, so that the facility can finally become a hub for all age groups in the neighborhood. "We will continue to monitor the situation closely, requesting maximum transparency regarding future activities," concludes the Committee president.

I think it's fair to report that the house is in a state of abandonment but people don't see or speak, the municipality promised but didn't do the work, there are bags, branches, weeds and a dangerous mirror, let's hope it reopens soon with concrete maintenance.
