– As part of Pitti Uomo 110, the city becomes the capital of Italian know-how. On June 17th, "The Art of Tailoring & Craftsmanship – A Global Dialogue" will take place, the first international forum entirely dedicated to tailoring, artisanal excellence, and the manufacturing culture of Made in Italy. This is a unique project within the Florentine event, conceived and promoted by the association Le Mani di Naples.
The initiative was created to create an influential platform for discussion between institutions, master craftsmen, companies, and industry professionals. The goal is to chart the future of quality manufacturing through dialogue on tradition, innovation, and the preservation of authenticity. Among the event's participants and sponsors are some of the most prestigious names: Piacenza, Tallia di Delfino, Cerruti, Carnet, Cuoio di Toscana, and Brunello Fodere.
The event aims to be a decisive step in promoting Italy's sartorial culture, with the ambition of becoming a permanent international platform for dialogue and collaboration over time.
Five key themes were at the centre of the debate:
Cultural heritage. The historical, social, and identity-building value of artisanal tailoring and the role of workshops in transmitting traditional skills.
Protecting Made in Italy. The need for effective tools to protect authenticity, production quality, and territorial identity, countering imitations and delocalization.
Youth and education. Strategies to make artistic professions attractive, foster generational turnover, and innovate training programs.
Districts of Excellence. A discussion of the role of Naples, Florence, and other cities that symbolize Italian know-how in building a national network of manufacturing excellence.
Fabrics and innovation. A dialogue between tailors, weavers, and wool mills to define new languages of luxury and contemporary elegance.
The event seems important for the city, but it's unclear how it will be organized. The tailors seem like a good idea, but the workshops lack resources. The protection of Made in Italy products needs to be more precise. A real operational plan is lacking, and perhaps young people aren't interested.
