A 52-year-old man, resident in Sala Consilina, was arrested by the Carabinieri Pursuant to a pre-trial detention order issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Lagonegro Court, the man is being investigated for attempted murder aggravated by racial hatred.
The restrictive measure comes at the end of the investigation coordinated by the Lagonegro Public Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the military of the Sala Consilina Company's Operational Unit.
The violent assault
According to the investigative reconstruction, the events date back to last December. The victim, a 37-year-old man originally from Nigeria, was allegedly struck on the head with a blunt object, suffering a serious fracture of the frontal region of the skull.
Investigators believe that shortly before the attack, there had been an altercation between the 37-year-old and an elderly local man. The alleged attacker, who was apparently uninvolved in the argument, suddenly intervened, striking the victim and then quickly fled in his car.
Police investigations
The Carabinieri's investigative efforts have gathered evidence deemed sufficient by the investigating judge to establish serious evidence of guilt against the 52-year-old. Among the charges leveled against the suspect is the aggravating circumstance of racial hatred.
After the precautionary measure was executed, the man was transferred to the Salerno prison, where he will remain at the disposal of the judicial authorities pending further developments in the investigation.
