The debate on the movida Salerno, following the initial statements of new mayor Vincenzo De Luca, returning to lead the city for his fifth term. As soon as he donned the tricolor sash, De Luca announced a full-scale offensive against the so-called "nightlife," anticipating a ban on the use of amplifiers and speakers outside venues and reiterating the need to guarantee residents' right to rest.
"Citizens must be able to live in peace," the mayor emphasized, also announcing stricter controls on compliance with noise limits.
The Fenailp's reply
Fenailp, the National Federation of Independent Entrepreneurs and Freelancers, responded to the mayor's remarks, urging that the issue not be addressed solely through bans and restrictive measures.
According to the trade association, the phenomenon of movida requires a broader and more shared approach, capable of involving institutions, economic operators, residents, and representatives of the productive categories.
For this reason, the federation has proposed establishing a permanent discussion table aimed at identifying balanced and sustainable solutions for all stakeholders.
The request for a meeting with the Municipality
The president of Fenailp Salerno, Gregorio Saetta, has formally requested a meeting with Mayor De Luca to open a dialogue on the future of the sector.
"Nightlife is a key aspect of the city's appeal," Saetta emphasized, noting how over the years it has helped strengthen Salerno's image as a tourist, cultural, and commercial destination, generating employment, investment, and new business opportunities.
«A resource to be valorized»
While the municipal administration is considering introducing noise monitoring inside venues, industry operators are reiterating the need for a shared strategy.
"We're not asking for privileges," says Fenailp, "but the opportunity to contribute to building a shared vision for the city. Nightlife must be considered a resource to be managed and promoted."
The association also emphasizes the importance of addressing critical issues that impact business growth and citizens' quality of life, believing that economic development, urban livability, and compliance with regulations can coexist through ongoing dialogue between all stakeholders.
I think nightlife is a resource for the city, but residents also have the right to rest; we need to find a balance, through dialogue and collaborative work. The Fenailp and the City Council should talk, but without impositions, with controls, shared measures, and respect, but without strangling businesses or taking away nightlife.
