Naples – A young man dressed entirely in black, his face covered by a hood, menacingly stalks terrified pedestrians near the Cumana di Montesanto train station, brandishing an assault rifle. The scenes, seemingly straight out of a TV series but unfortunately real, were captured in videos circulating on social media, particularly TikTok, since last night. That machine gun, a powerful AK-47, was found and seized by State Police officers, hidden under a parked car not far from the scene of the raid.

Panic in the streets and the mystery of the bullet casings

The weapon's discovery occurred very shortly after what is effectively the fifth "stesa" (spreading) incident reported in the Spanish Quarters in just one week. According to initial reports, several individuals on motorcycles fired shots into the air, sparking widespread chaos. People in the streets at that time fled, seeking shelter inside the train station or hiding behind parked cars to avoid being shot.

Officers from the Forensic Department, the Naples Flying Squad, and the Dante Police Station responded to the scene. Investigators, however, did not find any spent shell casings on the pavement, a detail that leads to the hypothesis that the shooter used a revolver (which does not eject shell casings) or a blank-firing pistol, with the sole purpose of sending a signal of arrogance and control of the territory.

Videos on social media and the shadow of the feud

The details of what happened in Montesanto are now being examined by investigators, who are analyzing videos circulating online. In one of the videos, the hooded youth can clearly be seen moving defiantly in the small square in front of the Cumana station. The boy appears to be looking for someone nearby before some passersby, with extreme courage, approach him to convince him to desist, ultimately forcing him to walk away.

The police ballistics unit will now analyze the Kalashnikov to determine its provenance and whether it has already been used in recent incidents. It remains unclear whether the young gunman was part of the same commando unit that carried out the attack or whether he had taken to the streets ready to respond to his rivals' fire.

Three clans of "baby Camorra" at war

The investigation focuses on a raging clash taking place in the historic center's criminal underworld. Three different "baby gangs" composed of very young people are competing for space: the criminal gangs of the Spanish Quarter, the Pallonetto di Santa Lucia, and the Montesanto area.

The frictions, often sparked and fueled by provocations on social media, have then exploded onto the streets. In the last six incidents, only chance has prevented casualties or the targeting of innocent bystanders. Law enforcement's already heightened attention to the phenomenon has intensified following this worrying escalation.

The Prefect's harsh reaction

That evening, the Prefect of Naples, Michele Di Bari, also spoke out forcefully, expressing deep concern over this serious incident: "Any act of violence that endangers the safety of citizens and disrupts the serenity of daily life requires a firm and immediate response from the state."

The Prefect then sent a message of confidence to the citizens: "I am confident that the combined efforts of the judiciary, the police, and all institutions will shed full light on what happened and bring those responsible to justice. Naples cannot and must not be held hostage by criminal violence."

  • Law enforcement intervention: Authorities have intensified checks and investigations to counter the escalation of violence.
  • Institutional reaction: The Prefect of Naples expressed concern and called for a firm response from the institutions.
  • Risk to civilians: In recent incidents, the risk to innocent bystanders has been high, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

This is worrying news, but we need to calm things down and investigate further. The videos on social media aren't always clear. People in the streets were confused and fled. Some tried to intervene, but I don't know if they succeeded. The police are working; we hope the investigation will shed light and those responsible are brought to justice.
