«I shot him». It is with these words that Antonio Guastafierro, 27 years old, shows up in the night at the Carabinieri barracks in Trecase, bringing to light a new truth about the murder of Salvatore Solimeno, 46 years old, killed this afternoon in Boscotrecase.
This version overturns initial reconstructions, according to which the trigger was pulled by 33-year-old Fulvio Titas, also indicated by the victim's wife and several witnesses.
Both with repeated criminal convictions and treated at the mental health center, Guastafierro and Titas voluntarily handed themselves over to the still-armed soldiers, creating moments of tension in the barracks.
From the condominium dispute to the gunshots
The crime appears to have stemmed from yet another dispute over neighborly matters. This morning, a fight broke out in the common area between Via Promiscua and Corso Umberto I over an improperly left garbage bag.
An argument that seemed to be dying down, but escalated in the early afternoon. Titas showed up with Guastafierro: at least three gunshots were fired, two of which hit Solimeno. One of the bullets severed the femoral artery, causing a fatal hemorrhage.
The agony and the attempted escape
Seriously injured, Solimeno attempted to escape by returning to his home. The two attackers chased him inside, intent—according to investigators—on "finishing him off."
The worst was avoided by the intervention of his wife, a direct witness of the scene, who managed to get in the way and prevent further shots.
The woman desperately tries to save her husband, using a strap as a tourniquet, but the man dies shortly after due to the severity of his injuries.
The escape and the arrest
After the ambush, the two fled. The Carabinieri raided Titas's home with the support of special units, but found no one inside. The turning point came that evening, when both decided to turn themselves in.
The technical investigations will be crucial: the examination of the stub revealed traces of gunpowder on both of them, leading the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office to charge them with complicity in murder.
The investigations
According to the reconstruction by investigators, coordinated by the Oplonti Public Prosecutor's Office, the crime was committed for trivial reasons related to cohabitation in the condominium.
The shots were reportedly fired at close range in the garage. A pistol with a scratched serial number, three spent shell casings, and a baton used in the attack were seized.
The two suspects were transferred to Poggioreale prison. It will now be up to the judiciary to determine individual responsibilities and verify Guastafierro's version of events.
The story seems complex, and Guastafi's version changes everything, but more clarity is needed from investigators and witnesses, and many well-done forensic checks. I don't judge, but I wonder how he could have shot in a garage and then turned himself in so easily and without clear explanations.
