A new phase of urban redevelopment begins in Bagnoli with the start of road redevelopment and the construction of the "Porta del Parco" metro station on Line 2.
The project, valued at approximately 11 million euros, was formalized through the publication of a tender by the Municipality of Naples, demonstrating a concrete commitment to improving traffic flow in an area long in need of more modern and functional infrastructure.
Bagnoli's mayor and special commissioner for remediation, Gaetano Manfredi, emphasized the importance of these works, which will be a positive legacy of the 38th America's Cup Naples 2027. "We wanted to restore dignity to the streets that have suffered severe disruption in recent months," Manfredi said. "These strategic interventions represent an investment in the future of urban mobility."
In recent days, a meeting was held at Palazzo San Giacomo between the Government Commissioner, the Municipality, the Tenth Municipality, the Municipal Police, and the National Association of Magistrates to finalize the organizational details of the work. The work will affect key thoroughfares such as Via Coroglio, Piazza Bagnoli, Piazza a Mare, Via Nuova Bagnoli, Via Diocleziano, Viale Cavalleggeri d'Aosta, and many others, including Via di Pozzuoli.
At the same time, the authorization process for the new Line 2 stop, which will be built between Bagnoli-Agnano and Cavalleggeri Aosta, near Via Nuova Agnano, has been successfully completed. This infrastructure will be a turning point for rail accessibility in western Naples, enhancing intermodality and facilitating access both during the international sporting event and in everyday life for residents.
Enza Amato, President of the City Council, emphasized that the redevelopment project involves not only the areas directly affected by the America's Cup, but also the connecting roads to the rest of the city, such as Viale Cavalleggeri d'Aosta, described as the "middle ground" between Bagnoli and Fuorigrotta. Amato also emphasized the importance of the water projects designed by ABC and supported by the Campania Region to prevent flooding during heavy rainfall, an integral part of the urban regeneration plan.
The project therefore represents a significant step forward in the rebirth of Bagnoli, aiming to improve the quality of life and urban mobility in one of Naples' most dynamic and anticipated areas.
It seems to me to be a useful and neutral initiative but we need to look further, because there is a lot of work and the timeframe seems short, the coordination between the Municipality of Anm and the Police Station does not seem to be perfect yet, let's hope that the construction sites do not block traffic and that the results are good for the city.
