A rock transformed into an illegal beach resort, with loungers for rent and even a makeshift bar. This is the complaint of a resident who contacted Green-Left MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, reporting the presence of completely illegal activity on the Marechiaro rock, near the historic Palazzo degli Spiriti.
The complaint is accompanied by photographs that allegedly document the occupation of the state-owned maritime property by several individuals who, without any authorization, allegedly organized a real beach service for local visitors.
Sunbeds chained to the rocks
According to the citizen, the alleged illegal beach resort is designed to operate daily. The loungers are rented to bathers during the day and, at the end of the day, instead of being removed, they are left directly on the rock, secured with chains and padlocks to avoid having to carry them every day.
In addition to equipment rental, a makeshift bar service was also set up, which also lacked the necessary permits.
The request for intervention
MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli intervened in the matter, calling for an immediate investigation by the competent authorities.
"We cannot tolerate the presence of an illegal beach resort on the Marechiaro cliff, a symbolic site of extraordinary landscape value transformed into the private fiefdom of unscrupulous squatters. The arrogance of chaining sunbeds to the rocks and organizing completely illegal catering activities demonstrates the belief that they can freely dispose of the city's common assets," states the parliamentarian.
“Defending public property and free access to the sea”
Borrelli therefore calls for swift and decisive action: "Immediate inspections are needed, all equipment used must be seized, and those responsible must be identified. This form of speculation on public property must be stopped. Zero tolerance is needed against those attempting to privatize beaches and reefs. Legality and free access to the sea must be guaranteed and protected along the entire Neapolitan coastline."
