An illegal hazardous waste dump was discovered and seized by the Caserta Provincial Police in the Marcianise area. The operation, conducted by officers coordinated by the Corps Commander, Colonel Biagio Chiariello, is part of a plan to strengthen enforcement against environmental crimes and illegal dumping in the province.
During the operation, a businessman was charged at large, believed to be responsible for the illegal management of the area. He will now have to answer to the charges brought by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere.
The area transformed into a landfill
The investigations involved a space of approximately 1.000 square meters, formally authorized as a parking lot for trucks and heavy vehicles. However, the investigations revealed a very different situation.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the yard had been transformed into an uncontrolled waste dump, with the accumulation of large quantities of industrial waste, drums containing processing materials, and special waste classified as hazardous.
Materials that, if not properly managed and disposed of, represent a potential risk to the environment, with possible repercussions on the soil and the aquifer.
The seizure and the complaint are triggered
At the end of the investigation, the officers proceeded with the judicial seizure of the entire area and all the waste present.
The business owner was charged with violating Articles 192 and 256 of Legislative Decree 152 of 2006, the Environmental Code, which respectively regulate the prohibition of abandonment and uncontrolled storage of waste and its unauthorized management.
The entrepreneur was then reported at large to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere.
The crackdown on environmental crimes continues
The intervention is part of the program of intensified enforcement launched by the Caserta Provincial Police to combat environmental crimes. The goal is to curb illegal dumping, uncontrolled waste disposal, and all activities that pose a threat to the environment and public health, in an area particularly sensitive to environmental protection.
