A major operation by the Castellammare di Stabia Coast Guard today led to the three-month suspension of business and restaurant operations at the "Maria Grazia" restaurant, located in Nerano, Marina del Cantone, in the municipality of Massa Lubrense.
The order, issued by the Preliminary Investigations Judge of the Torre Annunziata Court at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, charges the legal representative of Ristorante Maria Grazia srl with the crime of breach of seals aggravated by his role as judicial custodian.
The measure stems from the observation that some structures, part of a platform on stilts installed on state-owned maritime property and subject to a seasonal concession to be removed at the end of the bathing season, had not been removed but had been permanently anchored with concrete beams, thus violating building and landscape regulations.
The works were seized on December 17, 2025, and custody was entrusted to the restaurant owner, also due to the lack of seismic permits and the failure to submit the static calculations required for the installation's safety.
Despite a request for access to the seized area to conduct technical inspections and attempt to regularize the situation, the platform was not removed and, in fact, repainted without authorization, with plans for illegal use. On June 21, 2026, a Port Authority inspection confirmed that the seals had been violated: the platform, with the signs and tape removed, was occupied by tables and customers intent on eating.
Today's action is part of a broader effort to prevent and repress environmental and state-owned property crimes conducted by the Coast Guard under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office, with the aim of protecting state-owned maritime property on the Sorrento Peninsula. The proceedings are still in the preliminary investigation phase.
I read the article and, honestly, I don't know what to say, the situation is complex but it seems that there is too much negligence, the restaurant did not respect the seals, but it seems to me that no checks were done properly, people continue to eat there, and no one in charge speaks clearly.
