The Naples ring road is at the center of a fierce battle against the dangerous habit of using cell phones while driving. The State Police, through the Fuorigrotta Traffic Police Subsection, intensified checks during the first half of 2024, with alarming results: 217 violations of Article 173 of the Highway Code, which prohibits the use of electronic devices while driving, were detected.
This figure marks an increase of 148 violations compared to the same period of the previous year, with a total of 271 licenses revoked for distracted driving.
Law enforcement officials emphasize that using smartphones to make calls, send messages, consult maps, or browse social networks is one of the main causes of distraction while driving, comparable to driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
Such behaviors severely impair reaction times, dramatically increasing the risk of road accidents. The immediate withdrawal of driving licenses, required by law, is a fundamental tool to discourage this dangerous practice and ensure safety on city streets.
It's clear that the ring road has a serious problem: too many drivers use their cell phones while driving and don't respect the rules. Fines and license suspensions are useful, but it seems that behavior isn't changing permanently, and road safety remains precarious, with risks increasing every day.
