Residents of the Campi Flegrei (Phlegraean Fields) protested in the sunshine in Naples. They arrived in Piazza del Plebiscito from Pozzuoli to demonstrate outside the Prefecture during a summit on the bradyseismic emergency with Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi.
During the sit-in, two women felt slightly ill, likely due to the high temperatures. Both were immediately treated and are reportedly in good condition.
The protesters reached Naples aboard buses and remained for several hours in Piazza del Plebiscito, exposed to the sun, while inside the Prefecture the institutional meeting on the emergency in the Phlegraean Fields took place.
The mobilization took place while the summit was discussing the main issues related to the management of bradyseism, from interventions for the population to the measures needed to address a phenomenon that continues to affect the Phlegraean Fields in the long term.
The day was also marked by discussion about the possible introduction of a special law for the Phlegraean Fields, a request supported by the Region and local authorities to overcome management tied exclusively to individual emergencies.
