Juve Stabia raised their game in the most convincing way possible. At the Ferraris stadium, the Wasps pulled off a real coup, coming from behind to beat Sampdoria 2-1 and earning their first three points of the season, erasing the two-point deficit in the standings.
A victory of character, personality and above all great maturity, coming after the narrow defeat suffered in the debut away to Palermo.
But the spotlight on a memorable evening in Castellammare goes entirely to Antonio Di Nardo, the "Samurai." The new Gialloblu number 9, made official just 48 hours before the match, came on in the second half and completed the comeback in the 82nd minute with the goal that stunned the Ferraris. It was a simply devastating impact for the striker, who arrived from Pescara, coming off a 14-goal season in Serie B.
Sampdoria leads in injury time, Boer keeps the Wasps on their feet
Juve Stabia started with determination and immediately attempted to cause problems for the Blucerchiati. Karic was among the most enterprising of the team, forcing the Ligurian defense to pay attention.
Sampdoria, however, grew stronger as the minutes ticked by. In the 23rd minute, Esposito nearly took the lead, hitting the post from a set piece. The Wasps held firm and looked set to make it to halftime unscathed, but right at the end of the first half, the insult arrived.
In the 45th minute, Tutino capitalized on an assist from substitute Verschaeren to put Sampdoria ahead. Shortly afterward, the home side nearly doubled their lead through Begic, but Boer responded quickly and kept Juve Stabia in the game.
The yellow and blue reaction
The momentum of the match shifted in the second half. De Giorgio's team returned to the pitch with a different attitude, raising their center of gravity and starting to put Sampdoria under pressure.
Pierobon came close to equalizing, but Vindahl was alert. Juve Stabia continued to push forward and earned a deserved 1-1 draw in the 73rd minute.
Marco Bellich scored the equalizer with a precise header, restoring balance to a match that seemed to be going badly for the Wasps.
Di Nardo, two days later, is already in history
And then comes the moment that can change the meaning of an entire season.
In the 82nd minute, Antonio Di Nardo picked up the ball and attempted a shot at the near post. Vindahl's effort was flawless, and the ball ended up in the back of the net. It was 2-1 for Juve Stabia.
The new Gialloblu striker, who arrived from Pescara with a contract until 2029, took just two days to introduce himself to his new fans in the best possible way.
For Juve Stabia, it was the turning point, the goal that transformed a difficult away game into a feat. The stats also reveal a team capable of controlling the game: 62% possession and seven corners to Sampdoria's one.
The win in Genoa takes on even more weight when compared to their debut a week ago. At the Barbera, Palermo had struck coldly after just four minutes, but Juve Stabia still showed character in the closing stages, coming close to equalizing.
At Marassi, however, De Giorgio's team took another step forward: they took the blow, remained united, and had the strength to turn the match around.
It's exactly the kind of victory that can give confidence to a deeply renewed team entrusted to a coach making his first experience in Serie B.
And now comes Pisa. The next match will be at the Menti stadium: another chance to see how Juve Stabia can truly be a key player in the season that has just begun.
