During a meeting at the Prefecture in Naples with Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, the mayors of Pozzuoli, Bacoli, and Monte di Procida appealed to Campania's parliamentarians to make the enactment of the decree regarding the Phlegraean Fields a top priority.
The deadline for conversion is October 7, but the mayors expressed their hope that Parliament could move up the process and approve the law during the first phase of work after the summer break.
Luigi Manzoni, mayor of Pozzuoli, emphasized the need for a shared commitment among institutions, while Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, mayor of Bacoli, emphasized the institutional sense that should guide political forces in prioritizing this issue.
Salvatore Scotto di Santolo, mayor of Monte di Procida, also attended the meeting, confirming his willingness to continue the dialogue with the government to ensure timely and adequate responses to the needs of the Phlegraean Fields.
The appeal comes in the wake of discussions with the Ministry of the Interior, where a shared desire to support urgent legislative measures for the safety and development of the area emerged. The mayors also proposed amendments to the decree, confident they will be approved during the parliamentary process. The shared goal is to ensure effective and timely management of the environmental and social issues related to the Campi Flegrei.
