Anzio – Accomplices of a drug trafficking gang organized a 'controlled delivery' and 'delayed seizure' of 25 kilograms of cocaine, failing to subsequently seize an entire 50-kilogram shipment of the drug. This is one of the charges brought against the five police officers serving at the Anzio-Nettuno Police Station who were subject to a pre-trial detention order issued by the Rome Preliminary Investigations Judge.

The suspects are charged, to varying degrees, with criminal conspiracy to commit crimes against public administration, external involvement in drug trafficking, embezzlement, forgery, conspiracy to sell drugs, and unauthorized access to computer systems used by the police force.

A context, the prosecution claims, in which police and criminals worked in collusion. During an operation "controlled" by the "colluding" officers, an Albanian citizen assigned to transport the drug shipment was killed during a chase.

The five officers, serving at the Anzio-Nettuno police station, were arrested today by their colleagues from the Rome Flying Squad pursuant to a precautionary detention order issued by the Rome investigating judge. The investigation, conducted by the Rome Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) and delegated to the local Investigative Section of the SCO (SISCO) with the support of the Rome Flying Squad, uncovered the illegal activities allegedly carried out between 2024 and 2025 by public officials who, including through the illicit handling of confidential sources, allegedly participated—in various capacities and through acts and omissions—in several drug dealing incidents.

The investigative activity, in particular, was part of the investigations conducted against a criminal group dedicated to drug trafficking composed of Italians and Albanians, who were prosecuted separately.

The police officers under investigation are also being investigated for the misappropriation of sums of money stolen from individuals arrested for drug dealing: sums that were not seized, despite being the proceeds of the illegal activity. Several charges of forgery have also been filed against public officials for preparing reports that substantially differ from the evidence collected and the seizures made.
