The Agro Nocera-Sarnese area has recorded three workplace deaths and fourteen injuries, numbers that the Public Prosecutor of Nocera Inferiore, Luigi Alberto Cannavale, calls unacceptable. These data indicate an emergency that requires joint action by institutions to improve workplace safety and ensure effective and timely justice.

The problem extends not only to the judicial phase, but also to prevention, which is currently inadequate. The lack of administrative and inspection personnel compromises the authorities' ability to conduct rapid and thorough investigations, slowing down the establishment of responsibilities and enforcement of the law.

In response to this situation, the UIL proposes the establishment of a national prosecutor's office specializing in workplace accidents, with specific expertise and national coordination powers to avoid delays and procedural inconsistencies.

At the same time, a request has been made to introduce the crime of workplace homicide in cases of deliberate violations of safety regulations, such as tampering with protective equipment or skimping on worker protection measures.

However, the judicial response cannot replace a more robust prevention system, which includes an increase in the number of inspectors, better coordination between the Labor Inspectorate, the Local Health Authority (ASL), INAIL (National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work), and law enforcement, and ongoing checks, including through digital tools, to monitor workers' attendance and compliance.

Another critical point concerns the procurement and subcontracting chain: excessive price reductions often end up reducing labor costs and safety, a dynamic that requires more rigorous selection of companies and the suspension of those that seriously violate the rules from tenders and public funding.

The proposed interventions are based on a clear principle: prevent accidents, ensure effective controls, and ensure swift justice when the rules are broken. Only ongoing coordination between the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Prefecture, inspection agencies, local health authorities, unions, employers' associations, and bilateral agencies will prevent the Agro Nocera-Sarnese area from continuing to pay such a high toll in human lives.

Ultimately, condolences for the victims are not enough: we need concrete and timely commitment that, through prevention and justice, can truly save lives and improve working conditions in the area.
