Naples – Severe weather and unstable weather prevailed throughout much of Campania this afternoon. The regional Civil Protection Department has issued a yellow weather alert, valid from 13:00 PM until 21:00 PM today, Tuesday, September 8th.
According to the Functional Center's forecast, sudden showers and thunderstorms are expected, which, although characterized by rapid development, could become locally severe. Hail, lightning, and violent gusts capable of damaging roofs and temporary structures are not ruled out.
The affected areas and exceptions
The alert applies to the entire region, with only two exceptions: Zone 1 (Campania Plain, Naples, islands, and the Vesuvian area) and Zone 6 (Sele Plain and Alto Cilento).
Risks for the territory
The current instability poses a significant risk of hydrogeological disasters. Among the possible scenarios identified by the Joint Operations Room are:
Flooding and surface water flow along roads
Rising levels of rivers and watercourses with the potential to exceed warning thresholds
Rockfall and landslides due to the hydrogeological fragility of the soil
The Civil Protection Department has recommended that mayors and other competent authorities implement the preventive measures set forth in municipal plans, paying particular attention to the maintenance of public green spaces and structures exposed to wind stress.
