Ponticelli, residents' SOS amid rats and fires: "The institutions have abandoned us." Residents of Via San Michele reported the incident to Deputy Borrelli: a video report was sent requesting security, cameras, and urgent cleanup.
Years of neglect, reckless waste accumulation, and the constant presence of rats have transformed Via San Michele, in the Ponticelli neighborhood, into a symbol of urban decay. The desperation of local residents and business owners, now at the end of their tether, has resulted in an appeal to MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, accompanied by video footage documenting the state of the street.
Years of neglect and abandonment
Adding to the crisis is the phenomenon of garbage fires, often started out of exasperation or to illegally dispose of the remaining piles. The lack of video surveillance and the lack of enforcement by law enforcement have made the street a safe haven for illegal dumping.
Residents and local businesses are not asking for exceptional measures, but for the restoration of minimum living and public hygiene standards. They hope that the report will be brought to the attention of the relevant authorities for immediate cleanup and the installation of safety systems.
