Following a meeting between Ischia's Reconstruction Commissioner, Marcello Feola, and the presidents of the local technical professions' associations, the implementation procedures for Commissioner Ordinance No. 43, which is about to enter into force, were clarified. The meeting was attended by Lorenzo Benedetto (Campania Geologists' Association), Maurizio Carlino (College of Surveyors), Antonio Coppola (Architects' Association), and Andrea Prota (Engineers' Association).
Representatives of the professional associations expressed satisfaction with Commissioner Feola's willingness to engage in dialogue. They emphasized that professionals have always operated in compliance with national and local regulations, both in terms of services and compensation, thus refuting the controversy that arose following some of the Commissioner's statements during the presentation of the Ordinance, which were deemed potentially misinterpretable if taken out of context.
The Orders also reiterated that any non-compliant behavior will be assessed and, if necessary, sanctioned by their respective Disciplinary Councils, in accordance with ethical standards. The shared goal remains the rapid reconstruction of the island, with the return of residents to their homes, in an area characterized by seismic, volcanic, and hydrogeological issues.
The presidents accepted the Commissioner's invitation to continue the discussion on the implementation of the Ordinance and called for a review of certain parameters to ensure fair compensation for professionals, thus guaranteeing quality services for the benefit of the community. With this in mind, the Orders have agreed to approve complex fees through their Opinion Committees, confirming their role as guarantors of ethics and professional quality.
Open dialogue represents an important step in avoiding misunderstandings and promoting effective collaboration during the difficult reconstruction phase of Ischia.
