Naples – He has been released from house arrest and returned to probation, with the sole requirement of reporting to the judicial police. The pretrial detention order for Antonio G., the 48-year-old accused of the very serious charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault against his 55-year-old brother, has been eased.

After five months spent in his partner's home, the man will be able to leave his home: the request submitted by his lawyer, Massimo Viscusi, was granted by the judges, who replaced his house arrest with a requirement to sign in at the San Giovanni a Teduccio police station. However, the 48-year-old remains under a strict obligation: he must maintain a safe distance of at least 500 meters from the victim.

The motive: family feud and missing inheritance

The violent attack, which occurred last April, is thought to have stemmed from a deep and consuming family feud over financial matters. According to investigators' reconstruction, the 48-year-old allegedly discovered irregularities in the distribution of a will, realizing that a significant portion of the estate had disappeared.

Convinced that his brother—with whom relations had deteriorated for some time—was behind that financial "hole," the defendant developed a deep resentment, which culminated in the punitive expedition.

The ambush under the house and the drama of the coma

The tension erupted dramatically outside the victim's home. The 48-year-old man allegedly waited for his brother to return home and then ambushed him, lunging at him with unprecedented violence and repeatedly hitting him in the head and limbs with a baseball bat.

The 55-year-old's condition immediately appeared desperate: rushed to the hospital, he underwent delicate and complex head surgery and was kept in a medically induced coma for days. Only after a month of hospitalization and a long period in a rehabilitation facility was the victim able to return home, although he still bore the scars of that dramatic day.

A complex picture: the key issues of the trial starting October 15th

Against the backdrop of this dramatic event, the shadows of a profound personal fragility also emerge. The defendant has reportedly suffered from severe depressive disorders for years, a factor the defense could highlight to clarify the emotional and psychological context in which the attack occurred.

Meanwhile, the justice system continues. Antonio G.'s trial will resume on October 15th before the collegiate criminal court: a crucial hearing during which the injured party will be questioned, called upon to reconstruct the dramatic moments of the attack in court. But Massimo Viscusi, the defendant's defense attorney, has announced a battle in court.
