Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Napoli are still together. The Azzurri club has officially extended the captain's contract until June 30, 2030, extending a relationship that began in the summer of 2019 and has become one of the team's strongest bonds over the years.
The announcement came via the social media channels of Aurelio De Laurentiis's club, accompanied by an unequivocal message: "Congratulations, captain."
In the official statement, Napoli formalized the agreement: "SSC Napoli announces that it has extended the contract for the sporting performances of the player Giovanni Di Lorenzo until June 30, 2030."
When the agreement expires, the defender will be almost 37 years old and could therefore end his professional experience at the foot of Vesuvius.
A story that began on August 24, 2019, when Di Lorenzo made his debut for the Azzurri in an away win against Fiorentina. His first goal came just a week later, in the away match against Juventus in Turin.
Since then, the captain has achieved impressive results with Napoli: 307 appearances and 20 goals, as well as a list of honours including two Scudetti, one Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana.
The club retraced the steps of his journey in the press release: "On August 24, 2019, Di Lorenzo made his debut for the Azzurri in an away win at the Franchi stadium against Fiorentina. A week later, he scored his first goal in the away match against Juventus in Turin. He has made 307 appearances, scoring 20 goals. He has won two Scudetti, one Coppa Italia, and one Supercoppa Italiana with the Azzurri. Congratulations, Captain."
Di Lorenzo thus becomes one of the symbols of Napoli's recent history. Captain in the two seasons that culminated in the Scudetto, he remains with the club until 2030, with the goal of continuing his adventure in the blue jersey for a long time to come.
