"We have a substantial number of Red Code complaints," and "every Red Code hides a potential tragedy." This is the picture painted by Luigi Alberto Cannavale, the public prosecutor of Nocera Inferiore, during a press conference organized to review the first five months of his tenure.
Workplace safety is also a priority for the Judicial Office. Cannavale noted that in the last year, there have been three fatalities and 14 cases of very serious injuries related to violations of safety regulations.
"In the last year, there have been three workplace deaths and 14 very serious injuries, all due to violations of accident prevention regulations."
The prosecutor then outlined the main directions on which the Prosecutor's Office is focusing its work. Internally, an organizational reorganization is underway, with a clearer definition of sectors and responsibilities.
"Internally, we're reorganizing the office with much more focused departments than in the past."
On the investigative front, however, the work aims to follow the guidelines established upon taking office. These include monitoring environmental issues, with particular attention to the Sarno River, as well as combating safety violations and economic crime.
"From an investigative standpoint, we are implementing the intervention plans I outlined when I took office. There's an environmental phenomenon that needs to be monitored, especially the Sarno River, and it needs to be addressed strategically and comprehensively; there's a workplace safety issue, and a problem with combating economic crime and illicit entrepreneurship."
The Prosecutor's Office is therefore called upon to intervene on various fronts, from combating violence and economic crime to protecting the environment and preventing accidents at work.
"These are all phenomena we're addressing. In five months, we can only put in place frameworks, then the content will gradually be filled."
This is still an initial assessment, but it captures the priorities indicated by Prosecutor Cannavale for the judicial office's activities in the coming months.
