The suburbs between Pompeii and Boscoreale are once again facing a serious environmental problem caused by the indiscriminate dumping of waste and toxic fires that threaten the health of local communities.

During an inspection of the areas of Via Civita Giuliana, crossing the EAV zone, the Grotta side streets, and Via Aldo Moro, we found piles of waste and areas already affected by fires that risk turning into open-air landfills.

The problem is exacerbated by the inoperability of the video surveillance systems in the area, as highlighted in the discussion between MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, activist Alessandro Cannavacciuolo, and Pompeii Mayor Giuseppe Tortora. The cameras, although installed, are currently inoperative, creating a security gap that facilitates illegal dumping and the lighting of fires.

Activists and the "Mamme Vulcaniche" committee are denouncing this paradoxical situation, calling it a "farce" that favors those responsible for the fires. They are urgently calling for the repair or removal of unusable facilities, emphasizing the need for timely intervention to prevent new piles of waste from fueling further blazes.

The local population, now exasperated, lives in fear of breathing in toxic fumes and hazardous waste, fearing a return to the infamous Land of Fires. Their main demands include strengthened surveillance, a constant presence on the ground, and ensuring that surveillance cameras become effective tools of prevention and repression.

The alarm raised by Borrelli, Cannavacciuolo, and the Volcanic Mothers highlights an environmental and social situation that can no longer be ignored. The Pompeii and Boscoreale area requires immediate responses to ensure the safety and health of its residents, preventing fires from once again causing environmental and health damage.
